NUMERACY ACTIVITY

UNFOLDING THE MYSTERIES OF AREA AND PERIMETER BY FOLDING THE NEWSPAPER!

The students of Grade 4 put the newspapers to a great use when they used them to calculate the area and perimeter. They measured the length and breadth of the newspaper after folding it repeatedly and calculated the area and perimeter. It was an engaging activity which reinforced the concept of area and perimeter further. Here are a few photographs of their activity.

OUR SPECIAL ASSEMBLY

As a culmination of their first Unit of Inquiry under the Transdisciplinary Theme, Who we are, the students of Grade 4 conducted a Special Assembly to share their learning with the rest of the Primary School. Grade 1 and above attended the Special Assembly. The assembly began with a brief introduction of the unit and the TD theme by Koel and Anjali. This was followed by a series of three acts by Grade 4X. The first act  showed the importance of a healthy breakfast. The second act showed the importance of the various vitamins in our diet. The third act emphasized the importance of protein, calcium, fat and water in our daily diet.
Grade 4Y shared their thoughts in the importance of the different healthy practices through a skit showing the story of a boy called Rohan who led an unhealthy lifestyle and suffered due to this. He transformed his ways and led a healthy lifestyle at the end of the play.
Grade 4 Z presented a skit to stress upon healthy practices and showed how a girl named Junko was haunted by a  disease monster beacuse of all the unhealthy practices being followed by her. The good fairies try in vain to influence her to change her ways. Finally, when Junko falls horribly sick, she realizes the importance of healthy practices and turns over a new leaf.
The highlight of the assembly, however, was the rap song sung by the entire Grade 4, written by the teachers and rapped with confidence by the students.
It was a good assembly and we were proud to see the hard work of the students bear fruit with hard work and diligence.

A Meaningful Diwali

The students of Grade 4 had a class discussion on the significance of Deepawali. They were shown Youtube videos of children who work in cracker factories and the hardships they face. These videos made the students reflect on the hazards of using fire crackers for the surroundings and  the health of people around them and last but not the least the children who are victims of child labour.
The students made cutouts of earthen lamps (diyas) and wrote about how they would make this festival a meaningful one.
Children will after all be children as some of them sheepishly admitted that they would be burning just  a few crackers while others wrote about celebrating a green  Deepawali eating sweets and spending quality time with their families.

Form all of us wish all of you a Happy and Blessed Deepawali.

BIOGRAPHY WRITING

Biography writing was introduced to the students through a clock partner activity wherein they had to interview a friend and write a short biography about him/her. The class brainstormed on the meanings of biography and autobiography and understood the difference between the two. As a follow up of the same, the students will be required to research on a media personality or a celebrity during their Diwali break. They will return to school after the break to write a short biography on the person chosen by them using the information gathered by them.
Take a look at our small wonders busy at work.
